Why Shooter School? Besides being a fun time of getting together with our fellow pyrotechnics friends, an annual shooter training school helps us build upon the skills we need to perform great and safe fireworks displays. Unless we are traveling the world, shooting fireworks displays all year long, many of us just don’t shoot every day. We need a chance to get back into the groove so that this summer season we’ll be primed and ready to set up, choreograph and deliver the best fireworks shows we can. The State of Ohio only requires that we attend fireworks continuing training once every three years. We know that that just isn’t enough. During training we brush up on our basic rules of gun set up, table of distance measures and all the various rules we need to know as exhibitors and assistants. We also remind ourselves that the ATF, FMCSA, PHMSA and OSHA are always keeping a close eye on us making sure that we stay compliant with all their respective regulations. In working with fireworks, explosives or any other hazardous material, we are taking on the responsibility of limiting their inherent risks to health, safety and property. We can only do this properly through education. We want our spectators to see the best we have to offer. That’s why they come to our shows, for great fireworks entertainment. Our shooter training program gives us a chance to socialize and trade stories and ideas with each other about how to create better shows. At the same time, we learn a great deal about the safety and security surrounding the fireworks business from simply talking to each other and discussing the things we learn. We are looking forward to seeing you all again this year!
